A few aerials taken between Stellar and Falcon on 3/24

FORE!

Welcome To The Jungle

Love the aerials Jay. FORE is correct. I've hit more of those homes along the Apache Wells golf course than you can imagine. Golf ball smacking aluminum siding makes a very loud sound  :o

The large Mediterranean style cracker box in the upper center is the home of an acquaintance who owns UTAZ. He develops, sells and leases upscale medical, dental and professional office space.  The more modern home bottom left is currently owned by the gentleman that developed the Scottsdale Pavilions shopping center and the new Diamondbacks spring training facility next door. He has several airplanes at Falcon. I've been in his King Air C90B; however, he recently replaced that 'ol thang with a new Mitsubishi MU-2. Apparently the MU-2 can get him from point A to B slightly faster than the King Air. He has recently moved his family to their ranch in Montana and the home is for sale at the bargain basement price of 2.9 million - http://www.estateonbrown.com/index.php. Because of his holdings in AZ, we should still see his MU-2 from time to time at Falcon. 2.9 million and no swimming pool - go figure.

Not bad gigs if you can get them.

I can't even imagine having that kind of cash  ???

Imagining is the easy part...I do it all the time!

It's the reality that's hard!   :-\

It has an 11-car garage though for those who have a big car collection.

What could possibly go wrong with any of those bikes?

<runs away screaming>

Karen spent the evening with us tonight for dinner, and we were chatting about bikes and such. One story in particular........Her husband who is also a drag racer, was scared to death of my horses the last time he was out for a visit a couple years back. It cracked me up to see a guy who has no issues going over 100 MPH down a drag strip, being scared by a horse. At one point, the horses spooked and bolted. Jack (the husband) ran the other way, even though a steel pipe fence separated him from the horses. Oh well. What scares you, scares you. Personally, I'd hop on a nitro drag bike in a heartbeat and see what I could do. Of course, I'm not going to turn some great time, but I would make sure I got the bike down the track. And I'd do it again and again until I got it right.

I have media credentials for the week out at WestWorld for Az Bike Week. Friday night was REO Speedwagon.

In the center is Dave Amato. He and I are from Framingham, Mass. When I was 16 and sneaking into clubs to watch him play, he was probably 20 or so. Back in the 1970s, he was the local guitar hero, and he went on to play with Ted Nugent, Cher and others, before settling in with REO.
We chatted a while about the old days. I asked if he remembered my old band or any of the members. The answer was no, and I was not shocked.  ;D But he did recall all the old clubs we used to frequent and plenty of other good times back in the day.

Before the gig when he and I were chatting.

Kevin Cronin, lead singer.

Not a bad night, overall.

I took my daughter to the Falcon Field open house today, and she was fascinated by the model train set-ups they had in one of the hangars.  We wound up spending a bunch of time looking at them and I decided to make the best of it.

Cool shot Joe. It's almost like one of those miniaturized shots I've seen people doing lately, but in this case, it really is mini.

As seen on SR-93 headed out towards Wickenburg enroute to St George, UT a couple weeks ago...

The chassis seems authentic (as in, actually built on a tank) but the upper works (turret, gun, smoke canisters, etc.) look decidedly fabricated.

Headed to Fort Irwin to be used by OpFor units that play the enemy when US troops are participating in training exercises?  They use US/friendly vehicles that have been modified to look like soviet bloc vehicles (shape and size, basically using plywood and paint).  Makes for a more realistic engagement scenario for the gunners when they have to differentiate between friendly and foe when they are looking threw their sights.

This one a BMP?

I think it's meant to be a BMP-2, yes...

May have been headed to Irwin or else to the TAC ranges outside Nellis...

Those are some pretty substantial mods for something that would get turned into Swiss cheese on a bombing range.  Non-US-standard paint job looks pretty fresh as well.  NTC seems like the much more likely destination.

Might have been going out the 93 to the 40 and then west to Irwin.

I'll buy that...
