My captures from today's pleasant surprise - daylight arrival and departure of BA's 747.

Same departure, different angle.  After a random conversation about the Shughart/Gordon MOH scene in Black Hawk Down, I was inspired and I told Dave "Let me off here" while driving along AirLane, then I hoofed it a click or so east to what I thought would be a pretty solid place to get sunlit-side departure shots.  Several things worked against me.  First - AirLane is A LOT closer to the runway that it looks on Google Maps.  Second - 747s are big.  Like, super-jumbo-mother-gigante.  Third - 110º temps and what I knew to be a full load of pax should have let me know that it would be a late rotation.  Was still on the ground when it passed me. 

All that said, I'm glad I got the shots I did because Dave and Mitchell got the shots they did.

True, I was a little disappointed, but I like the rear-quarter departure shot I posted in the 747 thread, as it tells a better story than a plain old side-on shot.  I'm glad I was able to salvage this from my shots.

Just as a follow-up - my niece's group wound up departing on the later flight that departed around midnight.  Lame.
