So it's a gravel deflector.  Wondered why it was only on the nose gear.

Only reason I knew that is because during initial 737 school, the company showed us a very old B-737 flight test video made by Boeing. In the video they landed and took off from unimproved runways that most people would think impossible in a commercial jet. Especially with low hanging wing mounted engines! I looked but did not find that video on-line. The airplane has other mods as well to handle the rocks!! Here's a link to a list of the mods... http://www.b737.org.uk/unpavedstripkit.htm

Thanks, Mike .... over the years I have flown on similarly modified aircraft into gravel strips north of 60 and it's amazing how effective the mods are.  That said, I still think the most exciting landings are with Twin Otters on tundra wheels landing on eskers and raised beaches.

That is one shiny jet. Beauty, I like the dark sky behind it also, really highlighs the plane well, great treatment.

Thank you Tower Guy!! Appreciate it.

I agree Harvey....  Great shot Chris.  Like the lighting with the ominous looking clouds in the background.

Barry Griffiths

Hey Chris ..... super shot!! All the S/W Blues that I've photographed have had a matte finish to their paint schemes. Is this silicon-like, super shiny finish a new paint treatment for S/W Blue?

Thank you Anna and Barry.
I'm thinking this one might have been freshly painted and didn't have a lot of weather exposure. I double checked the RAW photo and it looked fairly reflective without any adjustments.

Anna's image is sooooo crisp and clear that it presents irrefutable evidence that Alaska Airlines continues to use the likeness of Bill Osmun without permission or appropriate compensation. Should he decide to litigate, I pledge to provide Bill with all the emotional support I can muster.

Digging through some old stuff here.  While not nearly as sharp and crisp as Anna's departure shot (I think mine might even be sightly front focused), I do like the physics involved with this one.  A classic 737 with a nice display of vortices and the resulting refraction.
