Huh? What is this? And thanks for telling me you were in my 'hood.  :P

BTW, look at all the ears back. Those critters aren't happy.

Rancho de los Caballeros is a nice resort on Vulture Mine Road. They run the horses in the morning and evening between the coral for the horse rides and the pasture in back where they eat and spend the night. I was up helping my folks with the stargazing event they do.

Cool shots of Kitt Peak, that's on my list of places to shoot!

Went sunset chasing last night out by Lake Pleasant (while the Wx was coming up from the south .. DOH!)

And when you get bored, you can always light up a Cactus...

My 5D3 initiation continues.

As an Arizona native, I spent much of my youth hiking and camping in the Superstition Mountains. As a photographer, I'm drawn to the Superstitions and enjoy shooting the iconic northwest face of the mountain - like a zillion other shooters. Late yesterday afternoon I noticed the storm clearly and figured I might get a good chance at some nice light if I hustled. I threw my equipment in the truck and headed east. I got there just in time for a couple of shots. Here is my favorite view; however, I can't decide between color or monochrome.

What say ye?

Tough call Jeff but I will vote for the color version.  The contrast between the rocks and sky is better on the color version, which creates a stronger composition. Plus the fact that the colors are so nice.

I agree with Scott on the contrast and composition. Like you I have done a lot of hiking in the Superstitions and for me the color does a much better job of capturing the feeling of the mountain. Great image.

Thanks Scott and Bill. I've got the color version as my desktop image on my 27" iMac. I must admit it looks nice. I've got some more massaging to do on the color treatment. Some blown-out highlights to recover and a few other touches.
