Inspired by the recent images from Jay and Rob, I deviated from my normal "Friday at Willie" routine and made my first photo trip to KPHX. The late afternoon/evening light was very nice and I had a great time. Spent the majority of my visit practicing panning techniques.

ROLL ON TWO FIVE RIGHT

Thanks to Joe for giving me pointers on where to position myself. I also enjoyed shooting with Matt and Bo.

Looks as if you've mastered the technique.  Even got the strobe!

Thanks Scott. While I haven't master much of anything in photography, I had fun trying a few new things yesterday afternoon and got lucky on a couple of shots.

Jay, love the SW jet passing the tower, something about that just interests me.

Great work, Twitch!  ;D Yep. My name for you. Great meeting you yesterday! Had a blast. Looking forward to much more of it!

I like it Bo. It is way better than my nickname in school; "Uncle Wiggly". Look forward to more fun in the future.

It was good to see you again, Mr. Welker, and Bo, it was nice to meet you.  I had fun hangin' out with both of you.

Told you that spot is a good panning laboratory.  Loving everyone's recent PHX shots.

^^^^ - Oh for the steady hands of a young photographer - no panning tricks required  ;)

I thought these images looked good on your LCD last evening. They look even better posted on the forum. Very solid work Bo.

Continuing with the 1/30th sec. and slower shutter speeds (this one is actually 1/15th sec.) series, here's one from tonight's session out at KPHX with Mr. Welker.

It was definitely fun shooting a Sky Harbor this evening. Matt and I ended up challenging each other to shoot slower and slower shutter speeds as the light changed from evening to night. We both hit the brick wall at 1/8th. I was totally amazed at Matt's ability to pan at 1/15th  :o  Unlike like yours truly, Matt did not cheat or use any artificial aides to get some great images at horrifically slow shutter speeds. Again, the steady hands of the youthful shooter  ;D

NIGHT OWL

INTO THE NIGHT

CONTRAILS AT SUNSET

While I was happy to simply get a shot of this wonderful sunset, Matt's inquisitiveness caused him to magnify the contrail on his LCD for further investigation. Turns out is was two jets (likely military) flying close formation.

Wow guys.  Those evening panning shots are quite nice.

Particularly tricky are the shots of jets in the air, as they are not simply moving horizontal, but all are pretty cool.

Takes the mundane out of the airliner shots.
Actually worthy of looking at airliners when shot this way.
