Be careful I used to work over there at Cox and security is out there, if they approach you just say your picking someone up in customer care, they have no way to verify that, plus it is the best place for an unobstructed view of the end of runway 7R plus is just a few feet away

Fifi made one flight today, at 3:35. Unfortunately, that means they were flying almost directly into the sun. They said they have a flight at 10 tomorrow, but I don't know if that means they have filled the flight or that they are selling rides for a flight. Maybe someone who is there this evening could ask.

Sentimental Journey and Maid in the Shade each made a low pass over the field on arrival.

Probably my best shot of the evening.

And another.

It was a great time. Hindsight being what it is, next time I am bringing a cooler filled with happy hour refreshments for the post-shoot time.

Thanks Joe for putting this together.

I'll post up some more shots once I have had a chance to go through them.

I tried different exposure controls this time, spot metering, and +2/3 exposure compensation due to a critique I received about my photo's being too dark.  Unfortunately the best shot I got of Fifi is the one with Sentimental Journey in the foreground.  You can see my workplace, The Arizona Republic Deer Valley Production facility, the white building with the red storage tank, in the background.

Can't wait to see everyone's photos. I would have much rather been with you guys than trying to finish a 7-hour deposition.

Enough of my complaining; did you guys get a chance to shoot any interiors with FiFi? That could be very sweet.

They didn't leave the keys. We couldn't get in. Hopefully next time we can.

Yeah, that was my bad.  I communicated our desire a little for internal access (mostly to place lights in the cockpit and to have our escort turn on the anti-collision strobes) a little late in the game.  One to grow on.

Thanks Scott.

15mm fisheye on a 50D, ISO 100, Shutter Priority, 5-second exposure, camera placed on 6' ladder.  Counted to four then quickly picked the camera up and shook it around while pointing it at some of the more-distant ramp lights.  Kicked the photo's butt with massive amounts of color adjustment (mostly red-reduction, remove color cast, and desaturation - didn't keep track of my work, just messed around until I reached the point of TLAR), and even more noise reduction on the sky.

I think we should coin the phrase "Rodeo Photography" for such things.  ;D

A few of my shots.

I am completely lost when the sun is not there. Can anyone suggest a place to start learning about light from the very beginning?
