PLEASE CLARIFY FOR ME - Do the two small bombs painted just below the canopy indicate that this Harrier and/or its driver have been in harms way?

I would say that indicates two sorties in anger, yes.

Also a safe bet that there are very few single-seat Harriers in the fleet that have NOT been in harm's way at some point over the past twenty years.
