The rules for this photo challenge are;

1.  This month's theme is "Backyard photography."  Photos submitted to this thread should be taken at least 2 miles from any airport or landing strip.  You must include the location (major cross street) that the photo was taken from.  ONLY PHOTOS TAKEN BETWEEN NOVEMBER 28th AND DECEMBER 28th WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.  Please keep this in mind.

2.  One photo per member (you can change your photo as many times as you like until the deadline).

3.  Photos should be uploaded directly to the "Photo Challenge" thread for the current contest (this thread).

4.  All photos must be submitted to the Photo Challenge thread no later than 11:59pm Arizona (GMT-07) time on December 28th.  Voting will begin on December 29th and close January 4th.  Any photos posted after the deadline will be deleted from the thread and not eligible for consideration.  You can only vote for one photo and it cannot be your own.

5.  The winning photographer will select the theme for the next assignment.  Keep in mind that assignments that are aircraft- or airport-specific may limit the ability of other members to participate.

6.  Have fun!

Hmm.  I live a quarter mile from Rittenhouse Aux, which is still used by AZARNG helos for training.  If I'm taking a photo of an aircraft over my house, is it automatically disqualified because of where I live, or am I only restricted from posting photos of aircraft actually using Rittenhouse?
"I'm sorry sir, you can't take photos of that aircraft."

Let's limit it to aircraft in or out of any airport within 2 miles.  So you could submit a picture of anything BUT those aircraft actually using Rittenhouse.

Sound reasonable?

I can dig it.  Just wanted to make sure I could actually submit shots from my backyard.

Way the heck up over San Tan Valley, AZ.  The SWA 737 actually crossed directly over the top of the COA 737, but that shot was a total loss.  Crossroads are Schnepf and Ocotillo.

Here's an A-319 headed into Sky Harbor, taken from my backyard.  Crossroads are Brown and Mesa Drive, in Mesa.

This literally was taken from my backyard.  Now, if this challenge is Backyard Photography and this is the Phoenix Police "Ghetto Bird," then where do I live?

The Legend of the Guardian of the Line
The Greek God "Linus" comes from the Greek name Λινος (Linos) meaning "leg."
In Greek legend, he was the son of the God Apollo who was accidentally killed when he stepped over the white line.

So I'm .6 of a mile from the approach end of RWY 17 at Stellar.  Am I too close or can shots from there be entered?

Not a decent photograph-able aircraft has been in front of my lens this whole challenge.  :-[

Remember - even though the title of the challenge is 'Backyard Photography' - you don't have to take the picture from your actual backyard.  You just have to be more than 2 miles from the airport that the aircraft is going in or out of.

You don't concentrate on risks. You concentrate on results. No risk is too great to prevent the necessary job from getting done.

Yeah, but usually I get a decent amount of stuff over my place (Osprey on one occasion no less) and so far I've seen a twin Beech waaaaaaaaay far away. It's a plot I tell ya!  ;D

FYI - the eastern end of Tempe Beach Park is over two miles from the east end of the runways at PHX.  Lots of good holiday cargo traffic this time of year too.

Thou art welcome. ;D
