Images are on my 7D Mk2, but not the card. Haaaalp!

The Internets is letting me down. I can't find a solid answer.

I shot Alice Cooper's show last night. I had formatted the card prior to the show. It was the same camera/card used for Goldwater range on Tuesday.

I was reviewing my shots as the night went along, so I know I had something. This morning when I went to pull the images, they weren't there. But, they are in camera. So, the memory card appears to be without the images, but they appear to be actually resident on the camera (I'd assume in the camera's buffer).

Anyone ever seen this before? How to I fix it?

ETA, I am pulling the images off the camera via the data cable. But I have no idea what I did to cause this condition, and I don't want it to happen again. Any clues?

And.......Aperture, Lightroom and iPhotos all bomb when trying to pull the images off the camera.

I'm hosed. Any ideas?

There's no possible way the images are only in the camera without being on some kind of media.

Canon cameras don't have that kind of internal memory.

You are absolutely correct Jay, and I'm an idiot. I forgot I had tossed my new (Free, thank you B&H) 64GB card in the camera some time ago, and forgotten about it. The SD was getting used, not the CF. I must have put that card in there a while ago. The odd thing is that when I came home from Goldwater, my images were on my CF card. So I'm not sure how/why the SD card was implemented last night, over the CF card. I guess it's time to RTFM.
