Solar Impulse 2 is on its Round The World flight.  Flying Leg 4, Varanasi to Mandalay, tonight.

Leg 8 will be from Hawaii to Phoenix.

I definitely hope to catch it's arrival and departure from Phoenix.

Oh wow!  I didn't know they were stopping in Phoenix!  I hope you get some great shots of its arrival/departure!

Looks like the website crashed. More interest than they initially imagined? When's it due in Phoenix?

When it gets here.....     ;)   This type of flight does not have hard dates.  To many variables to predict.

The next leg is planned to be KNUQ to KGYR. They are apparently ready for flight as soon as the weather is satisfactory.

They are not allowing public access at the stops this time though.

Jay, Are there any good locations outside the fence to get the arrival?

Seems bleak with such a late arrival, but then I recall Bo Ryan's awesome arrival shot from the last time it came to PHX, and it almost seems worth it to try.  Debating making the trip to Goodyear to take a stab at it, provided there's an okay-ish spot.

I'm afraid I'd be as much at the mercy of looking at Google Earth as anyone...

They have a LOT of land around their runway.  Nearly as much as Willie but for a single runway that's slightly smaller than Scottsdale's.

Been talking with Rob Edgumbe up in the Bay Area.  He said the crew was discussing a 9pm arrival at Goodyear.  Will post any updates as I get them.

Has anyone reached out to the Solar Impulse folks to try for any inside-the-fence ops?

The Solar Impulse folks are suggesting the baseball complex SW of the airport:

I am going to leave the office at about 7:30 pm and head that way.  Maybe a bit earlier if it looks like they will arrive early.

Volga-Dnepr IL-76 inbound to Goodyear at 3:33pm today: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/VDA4494

This is the support bird for Solar Impulse.
