My Fine Associates:

If you are interested in photographing the night sky (i.e. stars, constellations, meteors, moon phases, etc), here is a new instruction ebook that looks interesting. Please be advised I have no commercial interests or relationships associated with the sale of this ebook. I just thought some might find it helpful.

Piggy-backing on Jeff...

IIRC, there is supposed to be a rather stout meteor shower this weekend as well.

I'll be at 6,000' in the San Diego mountains (at the site of the former Mount Laguna Air Force Station - early warning radar site) likely shooting from where I captured this image. But will aim about 90 to 135 degrees to the left for a more northeasterly and less light polluted shot. I've spent several spectacular meteor gazing nights up there but have not yet gotten the image(s) I was looking for... Breaking out my new iOptron SkyTracker! So, maybe this time? Lemme know if anyone is planning to be in the neighborhood (we own a cabin up there) and I'll gladly share more details.

Holy holy-stuff, Mike, that's a killer shot.

Thanks Joe!! That one is a composite of several shots. This one (northern end of MW) is a single exposure with the light painted rock and plants done with a very dim and indirect stationary light set about 20 feet back. The sensor on the Canon 6d is wonderful!

Thanks for the link, Jeff.  I downloaded it.  The eBook, along with info from POTN, has given me a good foundation.  He even convinced me to get another lens.  Next month, I will be up in the hills about 40 miles north of Pagosa and plan to do some experimenting in some really dark skies.
