Gotta go again this year - got new glass!
Last year's rented lens was nice, but it made everything look like it was from a 1940's newsreel...

Hey Rudy, it's the  Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM and it's great for airplanes and birds! I'll be the guy with a camera wearing a hat...

The Legend of the Guardian of the Line
The Greek God "Linus" comes from the Greek name Λινος (Linos) meaning "leg."
In Greek legend, he was the son of the God Apollo who was accidentally killed when he stepped over the white line.

Lol! Sorry, fat old guy wearing shorts and sunglasses too!
I'll post here when I find a place to shoot from, or maybe someone will establish a place to meet-up with some folks during a break in the action?

Yesterday (Friday practice) was great! Met up with my dad! Hardly any spectators, easy parking at the museum, great arrivals, lots of mellow chatting with aircraft owners, but it was hot! 99 degree air temp and who knows what the ramp temp was. I live in Yuma - and this was hot! Skipped today (forecast for 98 degrees) but running out to LAX now for some late afternoon/sunset shooting. I'll be at the POF air show tomorrow for sure.

Sounds like you're having a great time Mike. Looks forward to your photographs.

Haven't seen the Raptor in a while.  It was great to see again.

Chino F22 May 2014 Burner Climb-2963 by Mike Margolis Photography, on Flickr
F-22 Raptor demo on Sunday at the Planes of Fame airshow in Chino.
Shot this from the extended centerline of runway 21 - just off the airport.
Great place to get better light (looking North) and great angles!
~ Just replaced my old and worn out Flickr account last night - hope this posts ok... ~

If you were aiming for "ok," you overshot the target pretty significantly.  Phenomenal shot, Mike.

Lol! Thanks Joe!! Until now I had been "attaching" images and half the time they did not properly show, somehow fell off, or were the wrong size. Now with flickr working again those problems are solved.

Thanks Jeff! It was a great weekend, but way too hot! And I live in Yuma! Last year I was freezing there...

The F-22 is quite impressive to say the least. I did not ask the pilots, but I think the "box" over Chino is a little small for them to work in
- lots of burner, turning and vertical and not much high speed stuff. But that keeps the jet a little slow and close for lots of good shooting opportunities.

Nah, that's pretty much the F-22 demo - much more focused on low-speed maneuverability.

Still one of my favorite demos.  Total jaw-dropper.

I think they've evolved their routine? The only other time I saw the F-22 demo in person was at The Gathering of Mustangs and Legends at Rickenbacker in '07
and there was more speed and linear acceleration. But, keeping it close and tight is much better for the "gathering of images."

It will be interesting to see what the F-35 can do to upstage the Harrier...
