At our airport commission meeting last night, it was mentioned that Woody Grantham may be flying in his PB4Y-2 Privateer to the fly-in.

There are 8 planes registered for the air race at this time. Several more are expected.

I'm sold. That of course, assuming that Prescott doesn't have a fly-in that same weekend (happened last year).

This is the same weekend as the AOPA convention in Palm Springs, which could impact attendance some. The American Bonanza Society is also having their annual event along with the AOPA one.

I've been to this one the last two years and, although they didn't have a large number of planes, both times there have been a few interesting ones that I hadn't see before. I'm planning to go.

Well the PB4Y would make the trip worth it because there's probably going to be less clutter than at the Copperstate

I'm curious where they will park it. The ramp there isn't very big.

That was brought up at the meeting, and no immediate solution was provided.

Would enough people show up for this that I could cook a nice meal and we could hang out and enjoy some tasty beverages after the fly-in?

Give me a show of hands.

Hey Scott, any word on whether the Privateer will go to the fly-in?

I've heard nothing more on that. It looks like there will be about 15-20 aircraft entering the race though. That's a nice turnout.

Thanks for the update, we're definitely going there on Sat.

I'll be there from about 07:00 on, likely parking planes in the morning, then shooting the air race departures later on.

Did anyone head out for this?  I was really hoping to make it out, but had other obligations today.  Looking forward to seeing what was out there.
"I'm sorry sir, you can't take photos of that aircraft."

"If you've seen my work, you'd know I really can't take photos of any aircraft."

Rob and I were there, as was Scott C. of course. FillipeG showed up kind of late.

Not a real big turnout of planes, and nothing particularly unusual. There was a polished aluminum Beech D18S that I've seen before but not too often. One T-34. One CJ-6 that is based there and didn't fly. Some of the racers were pretty nice.
