Awesome catch Paul! I wonder what that pod is.

Thank you Jonathan.  From surveillane aircraft I have seen and you probably have seen also, this has a feature of being maybe some type of a surveillance pod. Only a guess however, as I have not seen this type of pod before.

They use this aircraft for chase duties, so it could simply be a turret-mounted camera pod to record flight test missions.

They on there way to the boneyard?

The most recent info I found shows these Prowlers as being active, but that information was current as of Oct. 2017 well before these Prowlers landed at KDMA yesterday. The VMAQ-3 "Moon Dogs" until being decommissioned in June 2018 remain at the ready as far as I know.
