Canon Announces Three Lenses

Available April 2012
EF 24-70mm 1:2,8L II USM 2299 Euro

Available June 2012
EF 24mm 1:2,8 IS USM 829 Euro
EF 28mm 1:2,8 IS USM 799 Euro

2299 Euros is about $3000 right now. Canon USA lists the current version at $1399 "suggested retail" although it is available for slightly less than that.

Prices on the Canon Germany site are "Recommended retail price including VAT." No prices on Canon USA site.

I wonder if that's a typo or if they really are doubling the price of it.

I just looked at the Canon Germany prices for other lenses and they tend to be pretty close in Euros to the Canon USA prices in dollars, so the US price will probably be something around $2299-2399. Still a pretty big increase, but the other version II updates have been coming in at a hefty increase over the originals.

I find it kind of interesting that the new wide angle primes have IS, but the 24-70 doesn't. Tamron just announced a new 24-70 and it has IS (or VC as they call it).
