If anybody is looking for a camera they can carry around in their pocket and still shoot pretty good pictures, I would recommend the new Canon ELPH 310. I just got one and so far am impressed with it. It is about the size of a deck of cards but has 8x optical zoom, IS, 12mp sensor, 3 inch LCD screen, and shoots full 1080P video. The only drawback I can see for taking airplane pictures is that you can't set the shutter speed. Or, at least I haven't been able to figure out how to do it.

It cost $259, but that will probably come down a bit after the newness wears off.

This is the replacement for the ELPH 300.

This photo was taken in full auto mode and has not been edited at all.

I need a camera like this for the dirt rides I do. I don't want to take my good hardware off road and beat it up. I also do not want something that takes up a lot of room. Something like this would fit in a pocket in my Ogio flight vest.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Get a GoPro for the helmet Scott!

I have this fear that the moment I start recording myself will also be when I start crashing.  ;D

It goes with the GoPro, Can not have one with-out the other
"You don't become a professional simply by earning certificates, adding ratings, or getting a paycheck for flying. Rather, professionalism is a mindset. It comes from having the attitude, the ethics, and the discipline to do the right thing — every time, all the time, regardless of who's watching."

Paul, I purchased a Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS for my wife about a year ago.  The images that it produces are very nice.  She has posted a number of them on her blog.  The shots in the two attached posts are directly from the camera:
