Scottsdale Airport (KSDL)

I was also thinking of shooting out here. It's not too far from home and I could sharpen my tacks sorta-speak. Where are the best views? And would a 70-200mm suffice?

There are two spots on either side of the runway toward the northeast end of the airport that are both really good. I think I've got a map I can shoot you via email. 70-200 is perfect for aircraft over the numbers and cruising past you, but a bit under-gunned when it comes to the mountains-in-the-background final approach shots that are really sort of the signature of shooting out there. I'd say 300+ is ideal for those shots, with the 400-500 range being perfect. Heat haze off of Frank Lloyd Wright can become an issue during the summer.

Love that King Air shot, Tom. Tack-sharp, solid prop blur, phenomenal light, and caught at the moment the aircraft was in the one spot where the background isn't cluttered like crazy.

Thanks Joe! There's definitely a lot of clutter towards that end of the runway. Even at a whopping 3 fr/sec I managed to get a clear shot.
