So, Dayton was on my way back home and the museum is only a few minutes from the interstate. I wish I spent more time there, but I guess that means I will just have to return. Note to anyone who visits, the lighting really sucks in there.

Didn't we tell you to plan more time for Dayton!?
I may be wrong but the last few postings I've seen from here on other boards (POTN, FC, etc...) all claimed that they used a tripod and the museum didn't say boo about it.
Just a note for anyone contemplating a future visit. But yes, the place is an absolute cave... >:(
But a fun cave.....

Yes you did, but I was trying to drive a certain bit, so that took precedent.
That F-111 looks like a cartoon bloodhound from this perspective. Nice shot. Is the XB-70 still outside?

The Valkyrie is inside - in the R&D gallery - that is located within the base.

Nice Series Vance...
It's a crying shame that the inside is such a cave though... :'(
Thanks Jay. I was surprised how dark it was in there. The lighting was barely good enough for viewers who were just looking at the exhibits. I can't wait to get back when I can spend an entire day or two just taking my time. This last visit was a one hour sprint.
Don't quote me on this Vance but I think they allow tripods...
Unfortunately I didn't bring mine with me. I'm going to have to invest in a small lightweight one that I can throw in my suitecase for low light situations like this. ;D

I missed this display the last time I was in Dayton. Nice shot. This angle makes it look like a Darth Vader helment ;D

The Boeing X-32 was a multi-purpose jet fighter in the Joint Strike Fighter contest. It lost to the Lockheed Martin X-35 demonstrator which was further developed into the F-35 Lightning II.

Harvey, your series from the USAF museum are wonderful. Looks like a terrific facility and well worth a visit. I am especially fond of the Apollo 15 command module image. Well done sir.
I agree with Jeff, Harvey..
This is still one on my Bucketlist...
Jeff and Bjorn, thank you very much, I spent about 5 hours there and enjoyed every minute. I highly recommend this to any aviation enthusiast. My only disappointment was that the hangar with the presidential fleet and experimental aircraft was closed due to the budget situation. This hangar is across the field from the main museum and with my military ID I was able to get their only to find out they are staffed two days a week and my day wasn't one of them. Maybe next time.
