This is the airport in Avra Valley, right?  I've looked at it on Google Earth and saw the Connies and the A-37.  Glad to know they actually exist.  Do you know the story on the A-37?  Is someone restoring it?

I wonder if that Beech 18 is the one that used to be owned by the defunct skydiving center?  I made quite a few jumps out of that bird in the early 90's.

I don't think anyone is going to make it out there today.  According to Keith, McDougall isn't flying until this evening.  A few folks may make it out tomorrow, and I may head down there on Sunday.

Just cleaning out the archives and found this aerial of Marana from 2006
Taken at approximately 7500' MSL enroute to Tucson in a C172SP

As a point of reference, the pad where Collings parks is above the runway at far camera right.
The TA-4J lives in the solo hangar down near bottom center where the plane is running up for RWY 3.

Doesn't look like a whole lot has changed.

When they came thru on their original trip to San Francisco they stopped at Marana. So today I took a chance they would stop at the same place. When I got there the mast people hadn't arrived. They got there when the airship first passed over Tucson. It flew around the airport for a little while then back over Tucson for about an hour before it came back to moor. If I had any advance confirmation I would have posted it.

What a great aircraft.  I remember these flying out of Luke AFB in the early seventies.  They seemed to be using Camelback Road as a navigation aid because they were always just north of Camelback High School going east or west at fairly low altitude.  Their schedule frequently coincided with gym class.

Anyone know when the Collings Foundation planes will move from Mesa to Marana? The Collings Web site says they will be at Mesa until noon tomorrow (Thursday) and they will be at Marana starting at noon tomorrow. Something doe not compute unless Scotty is going to beam them from Mesa to Marana at noon. :)
