Don't know if this is the right place to put it.

I am having HUGE auto focus problems with my Canon Rebel XS.

While taking aviation photos, the camera will not focus on subject, instead it will constantly search for a focal point. Even when the plane is literally on top of me, it will just sit there and search.

Ground subjects, on the other hand, the camera will focus at the drop of a hat.

At first I thought this was a problem with my kit lens, but it is doing the same thing to a lens I just bought.

Is my body bad? Is it something with the settings? Or does god not want me taking photo's of aircraft with my canon.

Did this just start happening or did it focus fine before?

Never used the Rebel but assuming it has the same basic features as a 40D. Adjust your focusing points to just 1 single center point and shoot in A1-servo mode. See if that helps.

Seconding what Chris mentioned, I'd first check your focusing mode, to make sure that you're not set in 'Single Shot'.

It is the circled button.

Chris,

...after hitting that button, you can select which focusing point is used by rotating the wheel right behind your shutter button.
