I think it's interesting that the top CH-46 has the extreme rear of the fuselage painted black. You can see why when you look at the other two. The engine exhaust has made them look very dirty. The black paint hides it.

Another thing that was interesting was when they were getting ready to leave, after the engines on all three aircraft were started and warmed up, the rotors on all three started turning at exactly the same time. Somebody must have given a signal.

APSoCal had shots of what I assume were these same birds over in Cali supporting a VP visit.  I'm sure most of their operations are very, very well coordinated.

I wish the owner of this would start hitting the fly-ins.

This poor Magister has been sitting here for at least 10 years. For some reason it's marked N604RD and registered as N604DM.

"Precious Metal" climbing past the tower. It was a surprise to see it taxi out. I didn't even know it was there. Kind of late heading home from Reno this time. DNF'd in the gold race at Reno last Sunday, only finishing three of eight laps. Good view of the twin props, which are longer this year than last.

UPDATE: Their Facebook page says they maydayed out of the gold race due to one of the gear doors blowing off. Wasn't fixed until Thursday. They arrived at DVT yesterday.

Early turn to crosswind.

Here are a few more of Precious Metal. She was over at Atlantic Aviation. Thom had flown in there the night before from Reno as part of his trip back to Florida. I got a chance to talk with him quite a bit and even helped push the P-51 out of the hangar so it could get refueled
