Pilot injured in small plane crash at Chandler airport

A small single-engine plane made a "hard landing" short of the runway at Chandler Municipal Airport Wednesday morning, injuring the pilot.

  My thoughts and prayers are with the flight instructor. A friend of his said that he was badly burned and in the burn unit. It appears the student pilot's injuries were much less severe.

The link I saw through Local News via MSNBC mentioned smoke in the cockpit on takeoff and an immediate return to the airport.  Really sorry to hear about the CFI.  I've done some recurrent training there and have met many of them.

The plane took off just before 9 a.m. when the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit and immediately turned around to put the plane down.
