I heard there was an opening months back and let the mayor know I was interested in filling the spot, should he think I was qualified.

Well, between bumping into one of our councilmen the other day who said "I hear you're the new guy on the airport commission" and then getting an email from the mayor saying "absolutely....Love to have him on.", I'd say I am in.

This should be cool. I've been looking for a way to get more involved with aviation and this seems like a fine start.

I should have jets out of Luke doing low altitude fly bys above my house in no time.  ;D

They have an open house in the fall, but it's typically on the mellow side. We get a couple of Zero replicas, some ultralights, and not much else in the way of aircraft. There's also a car show. It brings out a decent crowd, but I'd like to see if I could make it better. Maybe, somehow, find a way to bring in some more interesting aircraft. Hell, since Luke used us as an emergency landing field last year, they owe us a return visit.  8)

Here's a shot I got from the aftermath of that hard landing last year.

That's a very good point. I will surely bring that up once I have infiltrated the ranks and won them all over with my charm.  8)

Congratulations Scott,

Certainly keep us updated on any goings on at Wickenburg.  It's not too far to drive for an event.

Well, it's now official. And I get to miss the first meeting in August because I will be in the hospital getting a hip replacement.  :-\

Our fall fly-in is October 9th. It's listed here.

My first goal will to try and get more aircraft to fly in and also maybe something a little more exciting.

I'm reading our 200 page airport general plan now. Damn exciting stuff.  ;D

well congrats Scott maybe you can bring some life to that airport maybe make it another Willie ,lol anyhow hope the procedure goes smooth and you have a swift recovery

scottcolbath

Thanks Chris.

I'm 86 pages in to the airport's general plan now. Darn exciting stuff.  ;D

For anyone interested:

It's a little dated, but not too bad. We extended the runway to 6,100 feet a couple years back, and there's some other odds and ends which aren't perfecty acccurate.
