Thanks Scott! This was taken during an exercise conducted by the 2d MAW out of Cherry Point.  Quite a number of different aircraft and ground forces were involved.  This particular shot was taken from a KC-130 at a location known as Whiskey 122 which is 30-60 miles off the NC coast.  Altitude was 13,000 feet.  Both Bulldogs and Ace of Spades Harriers participated.  EOS-5D Mark III, 24-105mm f/4L IS.

Now that you mention it I don't think I've ever caught one on the ground. At least not where it lit everything up.

Thanks Jeff! One of those cases where some judicious cropping helps a great deal.  When I worked alongside the graphics folks at GE we used to refer to it as "cropping the crap out if it".  Crude but descriptive.
