Jay, your shots are turning my grumblings about the $3,000 pricetag for the seminar into a humbling.  Top-shelf stuff all around.

If you get the WB issue sorted out, can you repost the image with a quick how-to on how you did it?  Just looking at the shot, it doesn't really have any solid white/black/gray that can be used for reference for correcting the color cast, which is typically how I skin cats like this.  The underside of the prop spinner might work, but I've found "blacks" to be the most unreliable anchor for correcting color.

I like them both when viewed separately, but together is essential to see the difference.  I feel the re-tweaked version has too much of a blue cast to it.

I feel somewhere between the two might be optimum, but of course it's up to the individual viewer's taste, so having both can please more people.

All your posted shots from the Air-to-Air shoot have been awesome.

Based on what folks are telling me, it sounds like the background is ok but the airframe is ending up too "cool" so it's going to take some CS5 surgery to get it all balanced out.

Where were you when you took this shot? This was from the air to air workshop.  We had the Spitfire in tow behind our Sky Van and this was the base to final turn prior to the shot I got of it over the runway.

I'd be interested to know/understand how you are using Photoshop for correcting the color distortion (cooling or warming).  I'm just doing some basic stuff with Photoshop (CS4), but want to do more to improve the appearance of my finished photos. 

It's going to involve Layers and Masks.  Bascially, I'll put the re-edit on a layer over the original, mask the entire top layer and then go in and brush away the mask to reveal only the warmer airframe over the better background.  If you'd like some Photoshop help, I'll be glad to answer specific questions as best I can.  I'm far from a Photoshop Guru as I actually prefer to do most of my post work in Adobe Lightroom.  I generally only migrate to CS5 for major surgery or when masking is required.

I'm with Bill, somewhere in the middle might be best. I like the warmer color of the aircraft in the first image better and the the cooler background color of the second image. Of course that means a little more photoshop work for you.
