Home of Howard Hughes' (in)famous Spruce Goose seaplane, as well as a collection of historic aircraft from the early 30's to the present.

I believe that I will be in portland for a history conference in March and this museum is on my list of things to do. I was wondering in comparison to say Pima, what is it like.

It is a smaller and newer museum. My pictures of it are from Oct 2002 - and that was the only time I have been there. I think I had seen everything they had on display in 4-5 hours.

(If you combined all of the Hangers at Pima - you would probably have the space about right for Evergreen)

I have heard they have since gotten a Blackbird (which puts it back on my "To Do" list) and have added an IMAX theater.

It is at least an hour SW of Portland - and only part of the trip is on the Interstate. Most of the trip was on windy state roads.

It all depends on how much time you have in your schedule. If you don't travel to Portland that often - I would go ahead and try to go to it.

Did you go inside? I got a tour when it was in Long Beach. That plane is amazing. Big too

I did go inside the main cargo area. It's $50 to go up on the flight deck, I didn't pay for that.

When it was at Long Beach you could go in free if you stayed on the Queen Mary. i stayed on the Queen Mary a couple of times while there on business, so I took advantage of the freebee. They had Bonnie and Clyde's car, and lots of other stuff in the dome at Long Beach, but the Spruce Goose and the Queen Mary were the main attractions. I think they had a Sherman Tank in the cargo hold of the Goose.
