I just found out that this T-33 is a former NASA plane.

A couple of Spike Vipers on short final for 3R. Note the repaired section on the vertical stabilizer of the upper aircraft that hasn't been painted yet. Also, that aircraft is marked 83 1186, which is kind of unusual. Usually the larger portion of the number is three digits. I think this might be because there was a serial 83-0186 assigned, although it was on a cruise missile.

"I'm sorry sir, you can't take photos of that aircraft."

"If you've seen my work, you'd know I really can't take photos of any aircraft."

"You don't become a professional simply by earning certificates, adding ratings, or getting a paycheck for flying. Rather, professionalism is a mindset. It comes from having the attitude, the ethics, and the discipline to do the right thing — every time, all the time, regardless of who's watching."

Thanks Scott S., Harvey, Joe, and Matt for coordinating this.  Always nice to shoot a rare bird (around here anyway) in a setting like Luke.

I took a couple of shots of an OK ANG F-16 that was parked near the P-3. It's 88-0539. Pictures from a couple of years ago of this same plane on Flickr show it with much more elaborate tail art. They might have toned it down for a recent deployment to Afghanistan. That's a liquid oxygen unit in the foreground of the first photo.

I'll add my thanks to those who helped set this visit up.  ;)
