Wooden prayer cards, called ema, at a shrine to Sugawara Michizane at Nikko Edomura village, a cultural theme park representing everyday life during the Edo Period in Japan (1603-1868).

Each year on Black Friday I try and get out of the house to stretch my legs a bit. This year I decided to visit some of the Arizona wilderness north of Canyon Lake. It proved to be more an arduous adventure than an old fat man like me should undertake. Nevertheless, I had a good time and it was much better than doing battle in the mall. Photo credits go to my hiking companion.

Skull Cave area. Look closely at center left and you just might see me wearing my maroon ASU shirt and blue jeans.

This photo is of the same area with a wider perspective to give some context to the level of "fun" we were having.

This is the upper section of Canyon Lake. We had to use a boat to access this area or hike 15 miles one way - I choose the boat :D

As I write this post, I'm listening to Billy Joel's 2008 concert at Shea Stadium (Scenes from an Italian Restaurant) - talk about nostalgia!

I finally made the trek to the top of 'A' Mountain in Tempe (not nearly as arduous of a task as Jeff's adventure from Friday).  Here's a composite of the city lights and sunset skyline, along with a crescent moon, from tonight (11/27/11).  I think I need to work on my layer feathering a little more (between the city lights and the mountain silhouette).

Any comments/feedback on my compositing technique?

I promise to slow down my AZ ANG nostalgia review very soon; however, I had to share the following image from 1958.

Yours truly starting training in the Steve Canyon program  ;D

Jeff,

You were on the leading edge even then!

And keep the AZ ANG nostalgia coming.  Great stuff!
