With July 4th fast approaching and assuming that conditions will allow for a few large displays of fireworks somewhere in Arizona, I thought you might find this article by Joe McNally helpful. It's called "Prepping for the 4th". In typically McNally fashion, a short story (I found interesting) proceeds the more technical comments about photographing fireworks. Thanks for sharing this Jeff, I've had some good luck in the past with fireworks but I've has some miserable failures also. Like power lines I hadn't seen until the wife pointed them out near the end of the shoot. They are always a challenge which makes it fun to "try" to do better each time.
