They were probably doing auto-rotation practice and mis-judged the altitude.

That video is from October, 2009. Did the wreckage just show up at Falcon?

It arrived maybe two weeks back.  I picked the right day to shoot it, as they moved it the next afternoon.  There are two MD500 hulks in their yard, I know at least one is a hard-landing victim as well.  The other one is in similar shape (messed-up struts, crumple damage), so I'm assuming it met its end similarly.

Thanks, Joe. I was shooting a close-up on the tail markings when I looked at that angle and I just could not pass it up. Not really my normal boring style of shooting, but I thought it worked well based upon what I was seeing through my eyes.
