Not sure if anyone heard about this but an E-3 Sentry from the 522nd ACW Tinker AFB, OK landed at Nellis and caught fire. Everyone escaped unharmed.

Don't know who the photographer was, I got this through a UK spotters list I still monitor because their news section is tops.

You don't concentrate on risks. You concentrate on results. No risk is too great to prevent the necessary job from getting done.

I read about this earlier, glad everyone is escaped unharmed.

Here are the rumors already floating around Airliners.net

  • S/N 83-0008
  • Hard landing due to the pilot not flaring.

We'll see if either of these rumors hold true.

The Legend of the Guardian of the Line
The Greek God "Linus" comes from the Greek name Λινος (Linos) meaning "leg."
In Greek legend, he was the son of the God Apollo who was accidentally killed when he stepped over the white line.

Looks like one of the shots EOR1 put up on Fencecheck last night.

Hell of an asset to have offline like that.
"I'm sorry sir, you can't take photos of that aircraft."

I imagine there's a couple of folks wearing very baggy flightsuits (particularly in the backside) after a debrief.

Maybe even irreplaceable....

What are they going to do - salvage the electronics and remount them on a 'low mileage' KC-135 that has already been taken out of service?

Unless the accident review shows that the gear collapsed due to fatigue - the flight crew and probably squadron CO are screwed.
