The Legend of the Guardian of the Line
The Greek God "Linus" comes from the Greek name Λινος (Linos) meaning "leg."
In Greek legend, he was the son of the God Apollo who was accidentally killed when he stepped over the white line.

Speaking of unique aircraft.  Here's one from the archives. This Electra was in Phoenix having a side looking radar (like an OV-1D) installed by Motorola. I got to go inside which was pretty cool. They had a seat on an elevator that took you up into the bubble on top.  Used for iceberg patrols.

Nice to see some DC-8s are still around.

Here's an oldie fron 1980. Those were some long aircraft!

The 8 is one of my favorite airliners.  Just love the look of them.  And that old Delta livery has always been a favorite.  Really wish they'd do a few retrojets in those colors.

The Delta livery was always a favorite of mine too.  I especially liked the versions that had the black anti-glare wrap down over the nose like on the KC135s.

KC-135R - Admittedly nothing over the top amazing about this shot but I haven't actually taken that many photos of our local KC-135s with digital.

KC-135A - At the other end of the spectrum, here's a KC-135 with the very loud and smokey J57s. January 1980.

A-7E Corsair II - Four A-7Es showed up at the Guard in August of 1980 for an open house. Not sure what the occasion was.  As I was walking in from where I had to park which was pretty far to the west of the gate, the pilots stopped and gave me a lift. Not only did I get to ride in with the pilots but you can imagine how hot is was is August so the ride was doubly welcome.
