Thank you so much for posting these Ryan.

No joke on the ramp - AA DC-10s, Delta 727s - I just want to jump into this photo with my camera!

Wait a minute joe I thought I saw you on top of the terminal. I wish they would do that again.

Yep, that was a time when you could take a nap on the runway. I forgot that Southwest had a few B727's. And this is before AWA or back when they only had 3 old B737's

Question on the far top left there is 2 aircrafts with 4 engines any ideas what or who they are? And I wonder what static sircrafts where on display.

Paul Dumm

I think thay are old DHL DC-8's. That is where the cargo used to be at.

The Legend of the Guardian of the Line
The Greek God "Linus" comes from the Greek name Λινος (Linos) meaning "leg."
In Greek legend, he was the son of the God Apollo who was accidentally killed when he stepped over the white line.

Glad to share!  We have tons of old photo treasures over at the company and I am slowly going through everything and digitizing it -- I'm limited in some cases with the quality of the scanner, so if anyone has a really high quality one that they are looking to sell and swap out, let me know.  Everything is in print form... no negatives and no slides... so I am limited by the quality of the prints.

At the same time, if anyone has any photos of the old Cutter facility that was over on Air Lane between 1959-1988 (before the current location opened), I'd love to see them!  We have almost nothing from that time.

By the way, Bob Whitworth over at our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/cutter.aviation.page) said that the PHX Airport Museum is planning a 75th Anniversary exhibit within the next two months, so if anyone has any archive shots that they'd like to help out with, please let me know.

Thanks,
Ryan K.

Actually, one of my friends who was flying cargo into PHX that year via a Cessna 402 said that he was pretty sure they were UPS DC-8's from what he recalled.

Either way, DC-8's are still awesome and rare these days!  Does anyone know if there are any DC-8 freight birds still out there?

Thanks,
Ryan

I'm digging the view of Terminal 1 in the background.  Brings back fond memories when you used to walk out to the planes and board via the internal stairs, at least on the old Republic DC-9's.

Ryan, You probable right. I could not remember if it was UPS, DHL, or Flying Triers (or some thing like that).

ATI is still flying them, NASA has one, and I think there are a handful of smaller cargo carriers that have them.

UPS was flying DC-8s into PHX as recently as two years ago, but I think they've purged them from their fleet.

I loved flying out of T1 when I was a kid, I thought it was so cool being able to walk out to the planes!
