Very nice work at Coolidge gents...

Unfortunately, life obligations prevented my attending.  Fortunately, I can live vicariously through everyone else.

This is kind of an interesting sequence of photos from Saturday (rough edit). A T-34 and a CJ-6 taking off together. The CJ pilot seems to get into a little trouble. The T-34 pilot is actually looking over his shoulder at him. By the third photo, the CJ is in formation and the T-34 pilot gives him a thumbs up.

Interesting.  We saw at least one of these at Falcon during the last Red Star formation clinic there in March.  It was during the mass launch that was supposed to result in a massive 16-ship formation, but it would up just being four flights of four in loose trail, plus a T-34 that wasn't going to fly to take the "official" photographer up to shoot the gaggle.  The birds all took off 2 x 2 and at least one of the CJ pairs had one where the wingman AND the lead rolled slightly to the outside before leveling their wings and tightening up.  My hunch is that it was due to the wingman gaining a bit more speed and lead on take off, informing lead of it, and opening up some lateral space to avoid smacking wingtips.

You're probably right.

BTW, I saw a schedule the other day and the Red Star "informal" formation clinic at Falcon is on the same weekend as Cactus again this year, March 1-4.

#445
The only half-way decent shot I got of the Spitfire replica, since he chose to use runway 17. Then he did his low pass to the east of us.
