INTENSITY

Check out the pilot's eyes.  He looks so focused.

The Legend of the Guardian of the Line
The Greek God "Linus" comes from the Greek name Λινος (Linos) meaning "leg."
In Greek legend, he was the son of the God Apollo who was accidentally killed when he stepped over the white line.

IMO, that's much more intimidating and effective...

True, but I also liked the detail in the first one of the two wingmen in the background with the taxi lights on.  Kind of a bummer you didn't have the room to rotate and still get them in frame.
The photo was already rotated due to unconsciousness during operation of the shutter.  It was one of those shoot from the hip kinds of shots that I later thought I'd try to squeeze some potential out of.  One of Jay's shots from early in the postings was a successful use of open space I thought.  I'll comment on it next.  Jeff recently posted a nice one too with a big open sky.  I think it's in the Hornet section.

The photo of Jay's that I was referring to was titled "NavAir meets Aaron Copeland..." Fifth one down on the first page. Nice clean composition that gives a sense of the wide open spaces.

It paid off being at the very end of the runway.
