Finally caught this one. I remember seeing PSA Lockheed Electras climbing out over the ocean after leaving Lindberg Field while vacationing at Pacific Beach as a kid.

Thanks Jeff!  Yes, I agree, these old paint jobs make things a lot more interesting.  It's so easy to take airliners for granted but they really are very capable machines.  If one of these had shown up during WWII it would have had unimaginable performance by the standards of the day. Cruising at almost the speed of sound for hours while the occupants sip on wine.  These days most people don't even bother to look up when one flies over.
