I'm off for my first motorcycle race ever. After riding for 44 of my 49 years, I entered the Elsinore Grand Prix. Here's a rough idea of what I'll be doing.

My goal is to finish the race and nothing more.

HAHA I lived in Lake Elsinore for a few years and I remember the race, good luck Scott!

Is that the same race Steve McQueen ran in "On Any Sunday?"

Well, I survived the race and came in second to last. That is one position better than I expected.  ;D

It was a total hoot, bordering on the insane. I started at the back of the pack in my class because this was my first race and I didn't want to cause rookie-like problems up in the front where I was actually supposed to grid. So, about 50 riders left before me. I passed a few, they passed me back. The course was in good shape on the first lap. It was an 8 mile run around the south side of the lake, through a motorcoss park and then up along the water back to the start/finish. By the third lap, the course was real torn up and I had been lapped by many riders. I had to keep my ears open to avoid getting tangled up with other riders. In the end, I took the checkered flag, got my finisher's pin, packed up and made my way home.

My time for the three laps was 51 minutes. It felt like ten. The fast riders were finishing in 39 minutes. I may do this again next year. I had a blast.

BTW, I passed March air base on my way to/from the race. Looks like it could be a nice place to get some pics of static war birds.
