PRESS RELEASE FOR RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY 26 AUG 2011
by Naval Air Facility El Centro on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 4:20pm

NAF EL CENTRO, El Centro, CA, August 24, 2011 - NAF El Centro announces the ribbon cutting ceremony on August 26, 2011 at 10:30 to mark the completion of renovations to their primary runway.

Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the upgrades and repairs to the runway removed 3500 by 200 feet of asphalt from the 9503 foot long runway and upgraded it to concrete. Concrete is more cost effective due to reduced maintenance costs and long term durability. The design life of the project is 40 years.

Nearly 28%, or $3.9 million, of the $13.9 million dollar project was contracted with 14 local businesses in the Imperial Valley. The construction project began in March, 2011 and completed in less than six months.
