You had me wondering in this shot when you posted it on FB last night lol! I was like how did he find this clear shot this far down the runway?

Excellent work. I'd appreciate it if you could share what tools in LR or PS you used to accomplish this great job of cloning. The new tools in both LR and PS are excellent; however, knowing what tool works best in certain situations would be helpful.

Thanks.

Thanks, Jeff.  This was all done in Photoshop Elements 6 using the standard clone stamp tool at 100% opacity and varying brush sizes.  "Content Aware Human" would be a fancy-name for it.  It was actually a fairly easy job, just a bit tedious doing it all by hand.  Luckily, most of the lines in the image are continuous from one edge of the frame to the next, so it really was a pretty easy job, it just took a while.

No real "Before" shot as such, but while going through the archives, I remembered that a husband and wife did "His and Hers" flights with the Collings Foundation when they were at SDL back in 2013.  He flew in the 262 while she flew in Betty Jane.

Air To Air can be challenging enough without trying something way outside the box, but as we were knocking along next to the Cavanaugh Flight Museum's P-40, I couldn't help but notice that the air was very smooth and so was Chuck Gardner's formation flying.
For some strange reason, I decided to turn the camera to portrait and shoot a sequence with the intent of stitching an air to air panoramic shot ...

The Shots

The Result

While it contains no glaring stitching errors (that I've found .. yet), I can tell that I was not rock solid for every shot in the sequence.  But for a one-off, 'what the heck, why not?' thing, I'm fairly happy with this.
FWIW, at a nominal dpi of 240, it scales to about four feet wide!  ;D

The Legend of the Guardian of the Line
The Greek God "Linus" comes from the Greek name Λινος (Linos) meaning "leg."
In Greek legend, he was the son of the God Apollo who was accidentally killed when he stepped over the white line.

Thanks.  I'm honestly not even sure what possessed me to try it.  Big dose of luck involved.

WOW!  Just discovered this section of the Forum.  Makes me reconsider the idea that I'm doing it all wrong.

Is there a section that I need to know about relating to workflow and software?

Here's my little contribution:

One section below this one is "Photo Tips & Techniques" which seems to be the catchall for editing & software chats.  This section tends to be more geared towards "Look what I did .. Here's how I did it .. What do you think?"

Nice job on the wires Ross.  Now you need to kill the shadows from the wires...

Thanks Jay.  Not sure I would've noticed those.  This is just lightroom with a couple of layers from Nik collection.  Photoshop was used only for the removal of the wires.  I am trying to learn using layers within photoshop, but it still seems so foreign to me.

Easiest way I've found to eliminate wires is to copy the entire image to a new layer (CTL + J), zoom way, way in and use the clone tool sampling the nearest piece of background you want to leave in place (sky in this case) and just "nip" off maybe 20 pixels or so at each end and then lasso the remainder and use Content Aware Fill to make the rest go away.  You sometimes have to hit the CAF a couple times if there are sets of wires and it samples the next one over while trying to fill.  If you don't have any vignetting issue where the sky at the edges is darker than the sky in the middle, you can sometimes use the Clone Tool along the entire path of the wire by simply sampling the sky slightly above or below the offending wire and drag the tool along the wire.

Processed in Lightroom for base adjustments. Then sent to photoshop for cloning. Finished with a combination of Viveza, Color Efex Pro, and Define from Nik Collections by Google. I prefer to use these through Photoshop and layers then individually in Lightroom.
