I can see why you'd have that one done large...  Sweet shot!

Then, there's the series of shots I should print, but haven't.

Antron Brown's crash last year at the Phoenix NHRA event, which killed a woman.

The money shot that paid nothing. But this did prompt me to buy my 7D.  8) My 30D which captured the images filled the buffer too fast, and I lost lots of shots as a result.

Never had a bad MPix experience. In fact, I'm thinking of switching back to Zenfolio because of their print association with MPix.

Your drag images are excellent Scott. Like you, I was there when Antron crashed (sans camera). It is eerie for me to look at your photo and realize that just a few seconds later an individual would lose their life - tragic.

Thanks Jeff.

We heard nothing about it until we got home. I was bummed when I heard the news. Just the year  before, we lost Scott Kalitta in a horrible crash.

Now back to the original purpose of this thread - Jay's "one man" show.

Earlier today I had to do some business in Glendale and used it as an excuse to check-out Jay's prints at Ground Control. I took my dad with me. He has been expressing an interest in seeing Jay's work in person. Not that my thoughts mean anything or that my opinion carries any weight; I have some comments as follows.

First, I agree with Scott that Jay's images deserve to be more promently displayed. That being said, Ground Control's layout is challenging and not optimum for displaying fine art prints. I also recognize that this is an opinion I formed after a short visit where I acted more like an art patron than I did a restaurant customer. Bottom line; I like to get up close to this kind of work and the facility is not geared to accommodate that function like an art gallery. Makes sense if you trying to operate a restaurant.

Second, the "Lighting" image is off the charts and deserves the role as "lead solo" in the restaurant. If you thought it looked good on Jay's website, it is even better in person. Jay; your selection of frame, matte and image size is absolutely spot-on. IMHO the price is very reasonable and I will be surprised it this print doesn't sell in short order. If nothing else, after several hours of wine tasting a few melancholy pilots should have no problem spending the cash; D

The remaining prints are dispersed in various groups throughout the facility. For those familiar with Jay's images, these are excellent examples that offer a nice mix of modern military and classic warbirds. Well done Jay and I wish you the best of success!

Based on some feedback from a few who've seen the prints, I opted to get some sectional framing from Hobby Lobby and everything now hangs much better and looks more polished.

I appreciate the notes from folks both public and private and I hope more folks get a chance to visit Ground Control and see what's on the walls.

I've been telling friends to stop in for a look.

Thanks Scott...

We'll probably hold some kind of "reception" in April once things quiet down around Luke.  If / When it happens, all will be invited...

Just an update but so far, two prints have sold and while things haven't quite reached the break even point, the total has moved above "Oh God, I'm losing my shirt here!"

Thanks to all for any word of mouth advertising and / or physical visits to Ground Control

My stuff will be hanging there through April and then it will be looking for a new home for either further display or re-sale.  I'd welcome any suggestions on where I might be able to display it and or sell it.

Glad to hear you are seeing some sales Jay. Hopefully, you will have a few more before the end of April.

Just a thought. Have you considered any of the public art centers located in nearly every city? For example, Mesa has an art center and they "show" artists regularly. It is my understanding that sales often result from these "showings". You might consider contacting a few local art centers and see what the program is. While I'm clearly biased, I think your prints would represent a unique change from their more "normal" paintings and sculpture. I also believe that because these are "local" images they would have additional cache. It is just my opinion, but I think that they might be looking for something "different" to generate increased interest and customer traffic.

Just my 2-cents.

Any update on this? I need an excuse to get back down there for dinner.
