36 Megapixels!  That's roughly three times as many pixels as the D3/D3s/D700!  It also means each pixel has one third the area as on the D3 etc.  Hopefully it won't churn out giant versions of the same noisy images produced by many of the overly pixel dense sensors used on the 1.5/1.6 crop factor cameras.  Having said that I will be eager to see just what it will do.  Could have great potential for landscapes if the images are relatively noise free.  Should be acceptable at low ISO anyway.

I think I read it max's out at ISO 6400 so yeah, the 100 stuff better be crystalline in nature...

I was expecting them to tweak either the D3S or the D3X sensor and use that. This leads me to wonder what will Canon do with the 5D3, as the rumors are 22MP, but they will have to either come up with a sensor as good as the D3S' or add a lot more megapixels to be able to outperform or be near the D800.

The D800 is already at the top of Amazon's sales list for DSLR's, even though it isn't available yet.
