Unfortunately, it's up against the renewal of Coolidge but for those looking for some Canon insights, I know John Stoilov from CPS at Oshkosh and he's good people.

I've never done Coolidge in October.  Seems too hot, too heat-hazy, and thin on traffic, so this might be a good way to spend the day instead.

Not to rain on anyone's parade; however, I'm on the fence with this workshop. Initially, I assumed John Stoilov was one of Canon's Explorers of Light. I checked online to see what area(s) of photography was his specialty (i.e. David Stoecklien & lifestyle). It turns out my assumption was wrong and Mr. Stoilov is not an Explorer of Light. Instead he is listed as one of Canon's Camera Product Educators. Now I not saying that I won't do a workshop without it involving a Canon Explorer of Light; for all I know Mr. Stoilov is a wonderful photographer. That being said, my eyebrows raised when I read Canon's own official online bio for Mr. Stoilov that says in part "He enjoys teaching and taking photos of wildlife, nature and sports in his spare time...". Spare time? I'm starting to wonder if this is more a workshop to let folks fondle Canon equipment and help generate some sales for Tempe Camera - rather than a true teaching/instruction opportunity. I'd really be jacked about a photography workshop if some of the fine AzAP shooters were putting it on.

@ Joe: Hey weather sensitive boy, according to the most recent forecast, it is supposed to be in the low 70's in the morning and won't get to 90 degrees before lunch. The worst scenario is a threat of rain (20%-30%). There will likely be some cloud cover; however, unless it is "socked-in" it could be a nice variation from the stark blue AZ background. As far as thin traffic; you have much more experience than I.

I'm torn between taking a "shot" at the Tempe Camera/Canon workshop or hitting Coolidge. I wouldn't mind fondling the 300 and 500 telephoto lenses at the workshop, but I'm not sure it is good to torture myself with toys I cannot afford. I could also find myself standing in a light drizzle at Coolidge and wondering where the planes are.

What's a fella to do?

Well, I'm a no-go on either as I have a wedding to attend up in Chino Valley that afternoon.

Jeff, Coolidge is kind of a gamble in October and November, just as it is in April and May.  December through March tend to yield the highest traffic volume, the best light, and the best weather.

I was an explorer of light, and ended up running from the tunnel when the light ended up being a 39 car train.

He may not be a Canon Explorer of Light, but as a Canon rep, he has to know his stuff.  He may even know more techncally than some of the Explorers.

SOunds interesting, but I'm afraid I have too much to do, to be there at that time and for 3 hours.  If it was later, I'd go.

I may do the workshop simply because I may pick up information which I do not currently have. Is it worth driving 100 miles each way? Maybe, maybe not. But it could be interesting.

Personally, I know nothing about flash photography. This could be good for me.
