A draft of the report underway when it was canceled (in favor of a more comprehensive report) has now been released and is available online at:

http://giffords.house.gov/2010.11.23.Wyle.OSB.DraftPrelim.pdf

Boiled down to a talking point, no Operation Snowbird aircraft have had a serious incident in 35 years and produce a negligible noise difference than normal base operating aircraft.   ;D

It's logical and well argued.  Nobody will ever read it...  :(

Lol... maybe that's the real answer to why they canceled it.  :-\

Plus, normal base operating aircraft produce noise levels that are generally negligible.

Actually, quite an informative report with a very nice rundown of the Snowbird Ops history.

Tucson flight training scrutinized by Air Force

"TUCSON - A military program that brings scores of out-of-town warplanes to Tucson for training each year will undergo an environmental assessment..."

Here's a link to the rest of the article: http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/11/27/20101127tucson-warplanes-training-impact-ON.html

The slant on the article doesn't seem to be a favorable one, w.r.t. the Air Force and Operation Snowbird.

I saw the article and I noticed that, too.  I was a bit surprised to say the least.  The news story doesn't really seem in line with the Wyle report either.  It is a strange slant in a community in which there hasn't been a crash in over thirty years--and the Wyle report makes that quite clear as I read it.  That is why the Wyle report was released in the first place--in support of Operation Snowbird.

I have a hunch--I hope correct--that the upcoming environmental impact report, when it is released, will be more in line with the "Wyle" report.
