Since the demise of my 70-300 lens I have fallen out of my aviation photography habits. And since my car decided to crack it's intake manifold, it will probably be very late summer until I'm even close to obtaining a new lens. At best. Which inspired the title.

So, to satisfy my photographic urges I've had to resort to a completely different and temporary focus with my photos. A friend of mine asked me to do some headshots of her since she needed some new ones. I happily obliged. Then, due to my recent boredom I have taken those images and created something more along the lines of artwork and am looking for some feedback.

I like the over processed look of photos for some reason and felt like giving it a try. Perhaps not your cup of tea, that's just fine. I'd just love to hear some criticism.

I like it and im not usually into the whole artsy fartsy side of photography and Stephen sorry to hear you still havent got your lens situation resolved I know what a blow it was since I was there at the moment of its death, I wish I could help out but its good to see your at least your able to keep the cobwebs off your camera and besides as you have proven photography can be a good way to pick up chicks especially ones that look like this  :o

I respect you for stepping outside your comfort zone and trying something different but IMO, two colors do not flatter human skin:
- Green
- Purple

From just my point of view, this is such a nice, laid back portrait that I'd rather see warm tones of browns and sepia than purple.
She's not raging on a stage or shredding the gnar where (again IMO) such processing would work with the theme better.

Soft things should be treated softly unless there's a darker side to this young lady that maybe we don't know...   :o

The technicals (framing, lighting, focus, etc...) though, are very solid!

Thanks for the info Jay! This is new to me and didn't think too much about the color cast to the photo. I gave it a once over and think I've made it much warmer, and made it fit to her personality. I think.

And Chris, Idk about picking up chicks with this.. at least not this one. She's married! :)

I like the tones better but...  (There's always a but, right?)

- Skin smoothing is a little overcooked.
- If you shot raw, can you recover a little more detail out her hair on top?  That's 10 kiloton blown out...

Nothing good comes after a but..  ;)

I'll try un-cooking them and reducing the hair explosion a bit.  I have a habit of over-doing things.
