The 2009 Annual Aviation Week Photo Contest is open for entries.

See www.aviationweek.com/photo  for details.

The last day to submit photos is October 2, 2009.  Only downside is it cost $50 to enter up to 10 photos, $5 each after that.

Winning photos will be printed in the Dec. 21/28 issue, possibly even the cover.

Cash prizes up to $1000.

There is definitely some stiff competition.  Last years winning photos were amazing.  I'd suggest checking out the last few years winning entries to judge for yourself if you have a photo worthy of submission.

Good Luck,

I received an email today indicating one of the photos I entered in the AvWeek Photo contest was a finalist.   I already knew none of my photos had won, since I get Avweek and the Photo Contest edition came out this last week.  There are some spectacular photos in there.   I never really expected to win, having seen some of the stuff that has won over the years, but I figured,"what the heck, give it a shot".

Anyway, I check out the link, and the photo of mine which was selected as a finalist, was one I just threw in, because you can enter 10, and I only had about 5 that I really wanted to enter, but hate throwing the opportunity away to have other chances.

It isn't even one I would consider that worthy, but who am I to complain.

Here's the link to the finalist pages.  It's a military shot of the A-10 demo at Luke.

I also have decided, there is almost, again, almost, no chance of winning this contest, unless you have air to air access with military fighters.  Virtually every winning photo took special access, but that's the nature of the game.  Most of the winning shots are by people you will have heard of, if you read many aviation mags or books.

Start collecting your best shots throughout this year, because the contest is only for photos shot during the year of the contest, roughly Oct-09 thru Oct 2010 for this next year.

Seconded.  You're in good company up there as well.
"I'm sorry sir, you can't take photos of that aircraft."

"If you've seen my work, you'd know I really can't take photos of any aircraft."
