Removing unwanted stuff from an image

OK kids, I think I've taken Aperture as far as it can go. It's not very good at removing unwanted limbs and such. At least, as far as I have been able to sort out. So I'm going to fire up my copy of Lightroom CC, which I have pretty much never used. I am armed with a book, but don't know where to begin. So, I'll let you wankers tell me where to go. 

First, the before shot. It is only available to me in an jpg. A friend at worked asked that I do what her wedding photographer apparently will not do. Remove the limbs in the image.



First thing I did was put a proper crop on the image.



There is a tiny bit of the person on the right, which I removed with not too much trouble. I don't do this stuff, so consider me a rookie.

I next started on the legs behind the dad.



But this is where things start going south on me. You can see where that tattooed foot is, and I want the area between the dad's legs to look like where the foot is. Aperture's clone tool isn't that good.



Tell me how you guys would proceed here.

You're close, I'd just start micro-cloning more and more as you go along.

That type of work really needs the horsepower (i.e., Layers and Masks) available in Photoshop.

(And, at the risk of being "that guy," does your friend own the copyright?  If not, you could be liable for infringement on someone else's work.)

Joe, I could keep going, but I don't like the direction the image is taking down by the feet. That being said, I'll push forward.

Jay, I'm probably going to have to step up and get PS one of these days, but it's not going to be today. And excellent point on the copyright. I work with the girl in the image. I'll ask her.

I can't recommend going the Adobe CC route enough.  I was a holdout on doing so for way too long, and it's worth every cent.

I loaded Lightroom CC, and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to move forward on this image, with CC. What the hell do I do? The clone tool/spot remover tool has no good details on how to use it on the app, and the online help I've found is not helping.

This is a job for Photoshop.  There are not enough tools in Lightroom for the level of edits required.  Layers and Masking along with the more powerful editing tools in PS will get the job done.

The Lightroom/Photoshop CC bundle is the hot setup for us photographers from Adobe.

I don't like the options. Why should I pay for something I don't want or need (cloud storage)? I also don't like the idea that I will be eternally paying for a product, when I should have the option to buy it once, and use it for as long as my computer lasts.....or, even longer than one computer.

I'm tempted to pull out the Canon CDs with their photo editing software, and go back to those.

Take a look at Photoshop Elements.  It's a standalone 'bare bones' version of Photoshop.  I used it for years before upgrading to the subscription-based CC (which I was a late adopter to for the same reasons you mention - the whole setup just rubbed me the wrong way, but I'm fine with it now).  Elements did pretty much everything I needed it to at the time, might want to take a look at that.

I used elements for several years and was happy with it, I eventually went with the subscription. You do get a lot with the cc subscription, I probably use a tenth of what's available but it's nice knowing that the full capabilities of photoshop are available provided I can get my pigeon brain to figure it out.
