Anyone use a laptop for photo and video editing?  A friend of mine just had his 7-year-old laptop take a dump and is looking for something fast enough and with robust-enough memory to handle photo and video editing.  Any suggestions I could pass along would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro. I got mine in 2009 and haven't had a problem with it yet. The only thing I'd like to do is take it from 4gb of ram to 8. I've got Adobe CC. Bogs down slightly with photoshop running but more ran would make that go away

What is your friend's budget?

How hard core are his editing needs?

Is he editing onsite at customer gigs?  Or just using his system at home for personal projects?

What software is he using?

Mac or Windows software?  (I am assuming Windows since you are asking the question)

I use a 3yr old 15" MacBook Pro  that is connected into an Apple Thunderbolt display when doing photo editing.. I've had no problems just on occasion when doing some pixel pushing the fans kick into high gear but no issues with bogging down or locking up.

I have no idea.  He just sent me a text message saying he needed a recommendation for a laptop for GoPro video editing and super-fast photo editing.  I told him I'd ask around.  This is me asking around.   ;D

2 year old 15" MacBook Pro when on the road - it's great.

Answers depend greatly on budget....

I would go with a MacBook bootcamped with Windows if he has the budget.

Watch out for limited color range displays on Windows laptops. Many only cover 70% for the SRGB color gamut.
