Chris, interesting information. The price will probably prevent me from buying one in the near future. I've been pretty happy with my 24-105mm f/4L IS that I've had since close to when it first came out. The extra length comes in handy as does the IS when shooting from moving vehicles or after my second espresso.  I will nevertheless lust after the new 24-70's sharpness and superior bokeh.  Would certainly make a nice companion to the 5D Mark III.

It's certainly way out of my price range. It's frustrating that when Canon brings out a new version of a lens, it's double the price of the original. Of course, even the original is out of my price range.
