Canon is having a 15% off sale on refurbished DSLRs and lenses, including the expensive ones. You only get a 90 day warranty, but there are some pretty good deals. Some of the fancier stuff is out of stock, though.

Lots of "Out of stock" items there.

I'd consider buying Canon refurbished when it comes time to move up to a 1D. I'd have to believe it's good as new.

Does anyone know what exactly they do to the cameras as part of the refurb? Is there some standard list of parts replacement and adjustments done in addition to any other non-standard items (scratch/ding, etc.) which may need attention?

This is all they say on the site.

Refurbished Products

Products are returned to Canon for a variety of reasons, including overstock balancing, miscellaneous returns from retailers, suspected mis-operation, and minor damage to the box.

Products that are refurbished must pass a comprehensive quality assurance inspection before final packaging and shipment. Rigorous function and cosmetic inspections are performed by trained Canon technicians so that each refurbished product meets operational specifications and strict cosmetic standards that we have established.

I don't think I saw a single L lens there that is not out of stock.

Stuff goes out pretty much as fast as it comes in and not everything is available in similar quantity.  Bodies seem to outnumber lenses by a fairly wide margin.

Lots of people "hawk" the Canon refurb list for weeks (if not months) in order to snag something.

One guy over on POTN checked every day for six months before he was able to snag a 1DMkIV.

When I first posted this, there were several L-series lens available. Like Jay said, they are going fast.

Keep in mind that CPS Members and those on Canon's email list get notified of stock changes on a pretty regular basis.
