The Phoenix PD Pilatus made an interesting flight early this morning.

There was a major roll-over wreck on the I-8 west of Gila Bend this morning, perhaps this flight was in support of that.

That's kind of strange. What did they do, fall asleep on the tracks or something? Not much in the article.

It looks like the plane did circle in that area, along with several other places along the 8.

They were tracking a group of illegals or smugglers with another team of agents, sounds like they were trying to move in for the take down when they got pegged by the train.

It's not entirely inconceivable that they didn't see the train if they were intensely concentrating on the task at hand.

I remember one night I was prowling around the east side of the airport in Philly one evening looking to do some dusk arrival shots and I paused for just a minute at a spot I thought might be good, looked in my rear view mirror and had it filled with coupler!

I was probably ten seconds from being turned into a cheese steak!  :o

"You don't become a professional simply by earning certificates, adding ratings, or getting a paycheck for flying. Rather, professionalism is a mindset. It comes from having the attitude, the ethics, and the discipline to do the right thing — every time, all the time, regardless of who's watching."

LOL.  Actually, aside from a Bugs Bunnyesque feint toward Albuquerque, it stuck to the original flight plan.

The landing was equally baffling - looked like center, then left, then it actually landed right.  Did the best we could.
